Who Is Eligible for Medicaid?

PhotoThere are two types of criteria that determine whether or not a person is eligible for Medicaid.

The first is that an individual must meet the requirements of an eligibility group. There are many different types of eligibility groups and each may consist of one or more of the following:

  • Individuals under the age of 21
  • Pregnant women
  • Parents and caretaker relatives with children
  • Aged individuals
  • Blind individuals
  • Disabled individuals

The second is that an individual must meet the financial and nonfinancial requirements of the group to which they belong. These will be discussed on the next screen.
