Medicare is a health
insurance program for people 65 years of age and older, some people with
disabilities who have been receiving Social Security for a set amount
of time (24 months in most cases), and people with End-Stage Renal Disease
(ESRD) (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant).
Once an individual
is enrolled in Medicare, he or she has choices that will affect cost,
doctor choice, benefits, convenience, and quality.
Let's begin our
discussion of these choices by examining the parts of the Medicare Program.
