Medicare Part B Overview

Medicare & You Handbook

Hal's brother refers him to two resources that will help Hal learn about Medicare Part B:

  • The Medicare & You handbook
  • The Medicare website: www.medicare.gov

Hal begins by reading an overview of Medicare Part B in the Medicare & You handbook.

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) helps pay for covered services and supplies in the following areas when they are medically necessary:

  • Medical and other services
  • Clinical laboratory services
  • Home health care
  • Outpatient hospital services
  • Blood
  • Preventive services
  • Ambulance services (when other transportation would endanger a person's health)

Hal knows that he qualifies for premium-free Part A coverage. So he wonders how Medicare handles the premiums for Part B coverage.
