Overview

Medicare helps cover preventive health care services to keep persons with Medicare healthy. These services are provided based on age, gender, and medical history. If any of the screening exams indicate that further tests are needed, these tests would then be considered diagnostic. This lesson explains coverage for preventive services.

Medicare helps cover the following preventive services to help persons with Medicare stay healthy:

  • Cardiovascular screening
  • Glaucoma screening
  • Flu (Influenza) shot
  • Hepatitis B shot
  • Diabetes screening
  • Pneumococcal pneumonia vaccination
  • Mammogram screening
  • Pap test and pelvic exam with clinical breast exam
  • Colorectal cancer screening
  • Prostate cancer screening
  • Bone mass measurement
