Eligibility to Purchase a Medigap Policy

Photo
Medigap Eligibility

Your Open Enrollment Period begins when you are both 65 and have Medicare Part B. To be eligible to purchase a Medigap policy, you:

  • Must have Medicare Parts A and B
  • Must be enrolled in the Original Medicare Plan (except under special circumstances)

Phoebe understands that she is in her Open Enrollment Period. She can purchase a Medigap policy during this period, and the companies offering Medigap policies in her state cannot refuse to sell her the policy of her choice. She has also learned that those who are under 65 and entitled to Medicare because of a disability or End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) may not have these rights.
