Module 4, Lesson A: Drug Discount Card Basics

Next

Introduction

Welcome to the Drug Discount Card Basics lesson.

There is now a new way for people with Medicare to get help with the cost of prescription drugs. Medicare-approved drug discount cards are available to people with Medicare in 2004 and 2005. People with Medicaid outpatient prescription drug coverage do not qualify. People with the greatest need will have the greatest help available to them. Those with lower incomes may qualify for up to a $600 credit each year to help pay for prescription drugs.

The Medicare-approved drug discount card is a temporary step to help until Medicare prescription drug plans take effect in 2006.

This lesson provides basic information about the Medicare-approved drug discount cards. After completing this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Define Medicare-approved drug discount cards
  • Define the $600 credit for prescription drugs
  • Identify the benefits of a discount card
  • Describe how the discount cards work
  • Identify enrollment and disenrollment guidelines
  • Explain how to get more information
