Medicare
Prescription Drug Plans do not cover all drugs.
Covered drugs include:
- Drugs that are available only by prescription and are:
- Approved by
the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- Sold and used in the United
States
- Brand-name and generic drugs
- Biological products, insulin, and supplies
associated with injecting insulin.
Drugs that are not covered include:
- Drugs excluded by the MMA law, such as:
- Non-prescription drugs
- Drugs for weight loss or weight gain, fertility,
cosmetic, or lifestyle purposes
- Note: Some plans may cover these drugs either at their own
cost or by sharing the cost with enrollees
- Drugs that are already
covered for a person under Medicare Part A or Part B
