The CSR at 1-800-MEDICARE covered the following
points during her conversation with Malia:
- SSA determines if a person is disabled
- A person is automatically entitled
to Medicare Part A and enrolled in Part B after she receives SSA
cash benefits for 24 months, and she will
receive her Medicare card in the mail
- Disabled Railroad employees and
Federal Government employees may also be eligible for Medicare
- All Medicare health plan choices are available
to a person who qualifies for Medicare based on a disability
- Coverage will terminate if SSA determines
that a person is no longer disabled
- When a person turns 65, her entitlement to Medicare will be based
on age rather than disability
- Federal law does not require insurance companies to sell Medigap
policies to persons under age 65
