Certain family members of a disabled worker may qualify for Social Security disability benefits on the worker's record, including:

  • Spouses,
  • Divorced spouses,
  • Children, and
  • Disabled children.

Each family member may be eligible for a monthly benefit that is up to 50 percent of the worker's disability rate. However, there is a limit to the total amount of money that can be paid to a family based on a worker's record. Click on the topic "Estimating Benefits" at left to find out how the family maximum benefit works.
