The formula used to compute the retiree annuity supplement is quite different from the formulas used to compute other OPM annuity benefits.
OPM uses an adaptation of the Social Security benefits formula in calculating the supplement—so that the supplement can provide an income that approximates the value of FERS service in a Social Security benefit.
