CSRS Offset retirement covers a special category of Federal Government retirees.

This "interim retirement plan" was developed to provide retirement coverage to certain employees during the transition from the original Federal employees' retirement system—the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS)—to the newer Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) in the mid-1980s.

For CSRS Offset employees, specific rules and calculations apply when determining benefits.
