Employees working under CSRS Offset retirement provisions:

  • Are covered by both CSRS and Social Security.
  • Earn retirement credits under the relatively generous CSRS formula.
  • Have the portability of Social Security coverage.
  • Are adding to any Social Security benefits they have already earned.

If CSRS Offset-covered employees continue to work after leaving Federal employment, they continue to add to their Social Security benefits.
